Shanda Lembeck, DNP, RN-BC, PHN is a practicing cardiovascular nurse and clinical assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing.
While studying at the University of Minnesota (UMN), Shanda noticed that there was minimal opportunity for nurses and other health professional groups to engage around climate and health. Due to this gap, she helped co-found the Health Students for a Healthy Climate (HSHC) at UMN. The vision of the group is to help increase understanding of the public health implications of fossil fuel based energy sources. HSHC provides an avenue for students to learn about the health impacts associated with climate change and how to take action to address these as a health professional. Shanda is also a member of the affiliate group Health Professionals for a Healthy Climate.
